Birth to Life | Vita alla Vita
Opening: Thursday, September 7th at 7pm

Following his artistic residency at the Zhou Brothers Art Center in Chicago and the great success of his anthological exhibition in Reggio Emilia, Enrico Magnani presents a collection of works never seen before at the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago from September 7 to October 6, 2017.
“Supernova. Birth to Life – Vita alla Vita” is the title of this exhibition, which features 13 big size acrylic paintings, all of which were completed on a multilayered support of cardboard and aluminum in 2017. At no stage of their creation have these works been touched by the artist’s hands, brushes or other instruments. Throws of air and water diffuse the color.

The artist finds inspiration in the nuclear explosions that characterize the end of a star’s life, the Supernova, a symbol of death and rebirth, an emblem of the cyclic nature of the universe. As stated in the catalog, “In these works, the perfection of the geometric lines of the triangle, the circle, and the cross dialogue with the chaos of the explosions of color, creating a balance between order and disorder. These geometries are part of the cultural and spiritual heritage of humankind, of that essence which, recalling Plato, transcends matter existing only in the world of ideas”.
“Through an explosion of colors, the geometry of lines and shapes, dancing reflections of light and shadows,” adds Alberta Lai, the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago, “the artist transmits to the viewer cosmic primordial energy, an impulse to rejoice in the cycle of life and the yearning for continual renewal. The invitation is therefore to immerse oneself in the aesthetic-sensory experience, but also in the magical-mysticism that the exhibition “Supernova” by Enrico Magnani allows”.
The exhibition, sponsored and organized by the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago under the patronage of the City of Reggio Emilia, will open on Thursday, September 7th at 7pm. The Consul General of Italy in Chicago Giuseppe Finocchiaro will be present at the opening. The gallery of the Italian Cultural Institute is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9am to 1pm and from 2-5pm. Entrance is free
