In occasione di WopArt, la prima fiera d’arte dedicata ai capolavori su carta che si terrà a Lugano dal 2 al 5 settembre 2016, la Galleria ROMBERG Photo diretta da Italo Bergantini è lieta di proporre una personale dell’artista Giuseppe Ripa.

Viene esposto per la prima volta al pubblico il suo nuovo lavoro fotografico Rarum, composto da stampe manuali di piccolo formato in un bianco e nero molto curato. Nello stand ROMBERG Photo sarà inoltre in vista una selezione di opere dei cicli fotografici precedenti di Ripa, Moondance e Seaside, insieme ai sette cataloghi dell’autore pubblicati dal prestigioso editore Charta (Anima Mundi, Tibet, Memorie di Pietra, Lightly, Aquarium, Moondance e Liminal. Tutte le opere esposte sono gelatine silver print, in esemplari vintage a tiratura limitata.

In Rarum vi è un libero rimando all’astrazione lirica, da Kandiskij a Klee, Melotti e Licini come modo di riscoperta della poesia e della leggerezza. Il titolo Rarum richiama l’uso del latino in botanica e l’indicazione in questa lingua di esemplari di piante poco comuni, ma soprattutto è inteso come sinonimo di lievità, di cose che hanno scarsa compattezza e densità e che, nelle fotografie di Ripa, si librano nel cielo.

L’autore sceglie di proporre Rarum per contrappunto, come risposta a questi particolari momenti in cui la nostra storia contemporanea subisce un’escalation di drammaticità, dove gli eventi e le cose sembrano precipitare e quindi, in senso spaziale, portarsi verso il basso.

Romberg Photo Gallery, directed by Italo Bergantini, is pleased to present a solo show of the Italian artist Giuseppe Ripa.

His new work Rarum, composed by small size, hand printing black and white photos, is exhibited for the first time on the occasion of WopArt Fair. A selection of Ripa's previous works, Seaside and Moondance, will be on view as well, together with his seven artbooks printed by the well-known Charta publisher (Anima Mundi, Tibet, Memories of Stones, Lightly, Aquarium, Moondance, Liminal). All the photographs presented are limited edition of vintage gelatine silver prints.

Rarum is freely inspired by the lyrical abstraction and by artists like Kandiskij, Klee, Melotti and Licini, as a way to rediscover poetry and lightness. The title Rarum recalls the use of Latin in botany and the word itself in this language stands for uncommon plant specimens, but it mostly means lightness, as of things poorly compact and dense that in Ripa’s pictures soar through the sky.

The author proposes Rarum to counterpoint and answer to the increasing drama of contemporary history we are experiencing, when events and things seem to fall down.
